Suzuki gives its V-Strom 1050DE Adventure a thorough refresh for 2023, with updates aimed at improving off-road ability, rider comfort, engine performance, and electronics. These improvements will apply to both the 1050DE and 1050DE Adventure, although the Adventure gets a few added elements as standard, such as aluminum side cases and LED fog lamps. Pricing for both bikes will be announced at a later date.
The 1,037cc V-twin gets new sodium-filled exhaust valves to help reduce temperatures in the combustion chamber, improving both flow efficiency and fuel economy. The ride-by-wire system is updated as well, with settings adjusted to work seamlessly with the new 32-bit ECU, which itself gets a faster processor and updated programming. The close-ratio six-speed transmission gets higher ratios in first and sixth gear, helping to improve shifts into second and in the higher gears. The ratio change is also intended to enhance acceleration when the throttle is opened.
Additionally, the 1050DE and DE Adventure will come with a new quickshifter system that will let riders easily move up and down the gearbox. A stronger and longer O-ring chain is equipped as well.
The overall geometry is updated, with a longer wheelbase and rake, wider handlebar grip, and an additional inch of ground clearance. The twin-spar aluminum frame is mated to a new subframe, which features more robust seat rails and rear fender brackets. The swingarm is longer as well, allowing for the improved link-type rear suspension setup to provide 6.6 inches of travel (up 0.3 inch from the previous design). The rear KYB shock is equipped with a remote spring preload adjuster. Rebound damping can also be tuned at the back. The 43mm KYB fork is fully adjustable and has an additional 0.4 inch of stroke for a total of 6.7 inches total travel.

Both bikes get new 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked aluminum wheels mounted with Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tires. Both also come with centerstands and longer sidestands.
Braking is handled by radial-mount Tokico calipers and 310mm discs at the front and a Nissin single-piston, 260mm disc at the back.
In addition to the new ECU, the DE and Adventure get an updated edition of the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System. This program manages lean-sensitive Motion Track ABS, traction control, hill-hold control, Slope Dependent Control, Load Dependent Control, cruise control, and quickshifter function.
There are three drive modes along with a new Gravel option within the traction control system that restricts ignition timing to allow additional slip when off-road. Riders will also have the option of shutting off the rear ABS system entirely to help improve off-road performance.
The bikes will also feature Suzuki’s Easy Start System and Low RPM Assist system.
All settings and bike info will be available on a new 5-inch TFT instrument panel.
Bodywork and Ergonomics
The front end gets a new smaller windscreen, designed to enhance visibility during off-road rides. The windscreen height is adjustable with tools. There’s a new three-piece front fender assembly that features improved fork guards also. An aluminum skid plate provides additional off-road protection along with a new engine accessory bar.
Both bikes come with a new seat with a revised bottom shape that reduces weight and improves rigidity. The footpegs are wider than on previous models to give riders a surer foot off-road.
The 2023 V-Strom 1050DE Adventure will be available in Champion Yellow No. 2/Metallic Matte Sword Silver while the V-Strom 1050DE will come in Pearl Vigor Blue/Pearl Brilliant White.
